Checklist before launching a website

01

Copy and headings

0 / 7

The main headline says in one sentence what you offer and to whom. If visitors have to scroll to understand what you do, many never get that far.
Every subpage has its own, unique title. Two identical titles confuse both visitors and search engines.
The copy starts from what visitors want to find out. If almost every paragraph starts with the word “we”, it is worth rewriting it from the visitor's point of view.
No sample text, placeholder or forgotten note has been left in. A forgotten “Lorem ipsum” or “[headline goes here]” damages trust straight away.
A person has read through the parts written with AI. Generic sentences that would fit any company are the most telling signs of AI-written copy.
AI review
Names, numbers and contact details match everywhere. The footer, the contact page and your Google Business Profile should show the same phone number and address.
Someone has checked the spelling and typos separately.

On every page it is clear what the next step is. One clearly visible button is worth more than several links of equal weight side by side.
CTA
Button labels say what happens after the click. “Request a quote” tells visitors more than “Send”.
Every link and button works and leads to the right place. Click through all of them, including the ones in the footer.
The form only asks for what you need for the next step. Every extra field means fewer submissions.
You have tried the form and the email arrived. Send a test message and check where it arrives and how long it takes.
When a field is filled in wrongly, a clear message appears next to it.
After submitting, visitors can see that it worked and know what comes next.

You have gone through every page on a phone too. Most visitors arrive from mobile, and different mistakes show up there than on a desktop.
Responsive design
The text can be read without zooming.
The buttons are big enough to hit with a thumb.
Nothing sticks out to the side, and there is no need to scroll horizontally.
The menu opens and closes easily on a phone too.
The phone number and email address can be tapped. On a phone, one tap should start the call or the email.

Images are sized to how they are displayed. A six-megabyte photo on a small card slows down the whole page.
Images are in a modern format, for example WebP.
The page loads in an acceptable time on slower mobile data too. You can try it with a throttled connection in Chrome's developer tools.
You have run PageSpeed Insights for both mobile and desktop. The suggestions it lists below the score say more than the score itself.
There is no unnecessary third-party code or plugin. Every chat widget, embedded map and tracking code means extra loading.
Only the font weights in use are loaded.

Every page has its own title and description. Google shows these in the results, and searchers decide based on them whether to click on you.
There is one main heading (H1) per page, and the subheadings follow each other in order.
Images have a descriptive alternative text. Search engines and people using screen readers learn from it what the image shows.
Accessibility
The sitemap is ready, and robots.txt does not block indexing. AI tools and test environments often leave search engines blocked, and this has to be switched at launch.
Vibe coding
Redirects lead from the old addresses to the new ones. If a new site replaces the old one, this way old links and your Google rankings are not lost.
The share image and title are set. Send the link to yourself in a messaging app and see how it appears.
The site has been added to Google Search Console. This is where you will see which searches you appear for and where indexing gets stuck.
